There are 10 Optigreen system solutions for roof greening:
The Economy Roof
An 80mm layer made up of sedums, herbs and grasses, this offers cost effective roof greening that is low maintenance. Two versions are available that both include a protection and storage mat, a single layer of substrate and seeding mixture, but with different types of drainage distribution. This system has relatively low biodiversity.
The Lightweight Roof
This 50mm layer is ultra lightweight and functional and features moss and sedums. To be used with a secured roof membrane, it is available with automatic irrigation for dry regions. It can also be used for non-pitched roofs without deep puddles. Due to the need for fertilisation, it is higher maintenance than the Economy Roof. The system includes a protection and storage mat, a light substrate, two drainage options, and the plants come ready to grow in a pre-cultivated mat that has a decomposable backing.
The Nature Roof
As the name suggests, this has a high ecological value, offering habitats for butterflies and wild bees. A high diversity of flora gives long lasting colour in a layer 100 - 250mm high. Two versions are available with different drainage systems. Both include perennial plants and/or Optigreen seed mixture and sedum sprouts, an extensive substrate designed for multi-layer build up, a filter mat and a protection mat.
The Retention Roof
This solution for green and ballast roofs features patented Meander panels as a drainage system. These retain surplus water, delaying its discharge and preventing water-logging on non-pitched roofs. The lighter build up gives better drainage performance. A seed mixture of herbs and grasses with sedum sprouts is used with a substrate with high water storage capacity and air pore volume, a filter mat and protection mat.
The Pitched Roof
For pitched roofs, there are sedum roof and nature roof solutions tailored to the degree of pitch. Versions for steeper roofs include a cost-effective and reliable anti-slip system that stabilises the substrate layer. Both are long lasting with a variety of blooms but the nature roof has a higher ecological value, at a higher cost. In all cases, the vegetation is on a ready-planted mat for rapid growth.
The Garden Roof
This is the intensive roof greening solution, where the roof landscape is to be used as additional outdoor living space that might feature shrub beds, lawns, ponds and seating areas. Automatic irrigation is included. Layer height is 260 - 600mm. The two systems each include substrate, protection mat, filter mat and a drainage layer to hold water for plants and equalise unevenness. One version has a drainage board and the other has a patented water conduit system, plus a root protection layer. An extensive plant list includes sedum, herbs, grasses and woody shrubs.
The Landscape Roof
For a deep green roof build-up with low weight, anything is possible with the Landscape Roof solution, from plants to trees. Suitable for a roof pitch of 0 to 5 degrees, it can provide permanent roof greening on underground garages. The system includes intensive substrate or lawn substrate, an aeration mineral substrate, filter mat, drainage layer, protection mat and either a drainage board or root protection layer.
The Public Roof
The Optigreen Public Roof solution has four systems, depending on the intended use. These are suitable for:
* Pedestrians only
* Trucks including emergency vehicles
* Any kind of traffic
With traffic roofs, there are a lot of variants to be taken into consideration including type and compression strengths of the substructure and the amount of incline. Optigreen has the experience to advise on applications including stadiums, exhibition centre parking, bus and fire access lanes. Walkable or driveable surfaces can be combined with green areas.
The Solar Green Roof
The Optigreen Solar Green Roof Solution is a specially developed system that reliably secures the base support for the solar power modules through the applied load of thr green roof structure.
The vegetation slso grows beneath the modules, enabling the largest possible surface area of the roof to be greened and providing the maximum possible cooling effect.
The Wall Garden
The Wall Garden is Optigreen's new patent-pending Green Wall system on asubstrate basis without ground connection. The core unit of this system is a high-grade, substrate-filled aluminium cassette system that can be delivered filled and ready-planted.
All products and materials meet current quality requirements stipulated by green roofing directives. Do-it-yourself materials are available.
Many completed examples of all Optigreen roofing solutions are pictured on the website, which also gives service specifications and free downloadable CAD drawings.
